Best Vegan Restaurant in Austin – The Beer Plant

austin, food, Uncategorized

Going vegan these days is pretty darn easy. There are so many options everywhere and legitimate ones too. Attempting a vegan diet/lifestyle 10 years ago was a miserable task. The options were ordering food at restaurants without all the fun stuff on them like cheeseless pizza or just having some steamed veggies or make something yourself at home which was basically the same options.

Oddly enough in a city famously known for its BBQ and where everything has meat on it, it has the best vegan restaurant. The Beer Plant is all vegan and you wouldn’t know it if you weren’t told. Yea, it’s that spot on. Their brunch menu was something to look forward to every weekend. They have continued service with take out during quarantine and as an added bonus – brunch menu everyday all day!

The Beer Plant has been featured on the food networks list of best vegan restaurants in the country and we would say it’s one of the best restaurants overall and not just for being vegan.

BURGERS: East Coast vs. West Coast vs. Third Coast

food, Uncategorized

Whataburger – What every Texan loves but East coasters haven’t a clue.

Let’s back track a little… For the longest time east coasters only had McDonald’s and Burger King as their options for a burger. Pretty pathetic. This is how the obsession with In-N-Out started. We didn’t have any burger joints so on trips to the west coast, everyone always made a stop at In-N-Out bragging how amazing it is. Popularity by lack of supply.

Fortunately, in the past few years we have been blessed with more options such as Bareburger and Shake Shack. Now that we know what a good burger tastes like, it kind of ruins the infatuation with In-N-Out . It just so happens they are moving to NYC. We say it’s a little too late for them to finally be making the move to the east coast. It’s like an old relationship and we’ve moved on to bigger and greater burgers.

It’s always been east coast vs west coast but let’s throw something else into the great burger debate – Whataburger. A long time favorite to every Texan but ask any east coaster, specifically in the north, and most likely they will say they have never heard of it. It’s like a Texas secret and doing a good job keeping it to themselves. This is why we want to start the movement to raise awareness about Whataburger for those deprived of a great burger chain.

This has been a burger service announcement for the tri-state area. You’re welcome.

Austin’s hotest new cafe/hangout- Uncle Nicky’s Italian cafe. It’s the Central Perk of Hyde Park.

The casual restaurant features Northern Italian cuisine on their menu with Aperol Spritz and Campari. Truly an authentic Italian spot.

They’re open from 7am to midnight so you can go for a cup of coffee and breakfast sandwich before work or head there on a late night for a night cap and some gelato.

We recommend bringing your laptop and going for a drink, appetizer and the daily flavor of gelato.

TIP: Get the Garibaldi with the fluffy orange. It’s like no other drink we’ve had before. It’s delish! (Pictured above.)

FUN FACT: Dolce Vita on the drink menu pays homage to the previous restaurant that was in the space serving gelato and espresso to the neighborhood for 23 years and closed their doors last year.

Mmmmmmm Cheeeeeeeese…. Who doesn’t love cheese?! I can’t even associate with you if you say you don’t like cheese. For those “lactose intolerant” – it’s simply a state of mind. Now that we’re all on the same page, I have a cheesy suggestion for you. (No pun intended) Antonelli’s Cheese Shop in Austin hosts cheese classes. Perfect for a date or girls night out.

It’s about an hour and a half class learning about the origin of the cheese you are sampling while sipping on wine. They have pairing suggestions, provide snacks such as almonds and olives, and unlimited bread.

The class is what you make of it – learn as much as you want or you’re just in it for the food. No matter what you’re looking for it’s a fun evening.

TIP: If you want to continue to party after class, head next door to Uncle Nicky’s for gelato and an aperitif.
